Ozark (Drama)
Your challenge for OZARK today?
To create a threatening mood without making reference to the score.
Soundtrack music is non-diegetic; it is outside the story, and therefore not the territory of the writer.
How will you deal with this?
Remember that in this part of the course, you build on the experience gained in the first half…
How did THE CABIN IN THE WOODS achieve suspense in that scene, a few days ago?
Sicario (Action)
We’ll look at part of an action scene from the opening sequence of SICARIO.
Dialogue is sparse, and you will need to decide what (not) to include in the dialogue element, and what you’re going to describe in action. Perhaps the subtitles may help you in this decision.
In terms of the setting, you will have to choose how to label the sluglines. Is this just an INT. HOUSE? Or will you specify the hallway and the room? It is important that you give the reader some situational awareness.
As to the main character played by Emily Blunt, she is named KATE. Try to read her mind from her behaviour, and capture what you believe is important. Don’t attempt to infer whatever is not important or clear.
As a bonus for completing the course, you’ll receive the full scripts for all videos, so you can check your work – and enjoy an exciting read!
