Immersion Script

Day 9 – Write the synopsis · Step 2 of 2

Step 2: Draft your Synopsis

Topic · 1 minute

Every writer needs to synopsise sooner or later, and depending on how prolific you are, you may have to do it frequently.

Because your synopsis skills may determine whether or not your script will be requested, this is a fairly high stakes game!

Using the step outline you created yesterday, now summarise the story in a single, flowing, narrative text.

By flowing, I mean that it should make sense to someone who doesn’t already know the story. And ideally, it should be compelling to read.

Right now, you’ll only write the first draft. So it doesn’t have to be perfect. And it doesn’t have to be 500 words exactly – yet.

Tomorrow we’ll refine it further. The end result will be an irresistible hook for the reader to request your script.

For your first synopsis, you may use the Synopsis Checklist.
