Day 23 – If Courtney can…
Day · 1 minute
The hardest part in designing this course was the selection of the material.
Imagine picking only 42 scripts from a collection of thousands. I would have loved to include FROZEN RIVER, an outstanding screenplay for a gripping indie drama written and directed by Courtney Hunt. (*)
Courtney Hunt famously admitted to only writing a minimum of 10 minutes every day. This statement was one of the reasons that inspired me to make the daily time slot dedicated to This course so short.
If Courtney can write scripts starting from a 10-minute burst, you surely can from 22 minutes. It took her 7 – 8 months to complete FROZEN RIVER under this regimen.
Today’s Mastery scripts have little connection with Courtney Hunt, other than that LONE STAR also takes place on the border, this time in America’s South.
The film was written and directed by John Sayles, and I had the honour to be on the Press Jury of the Brussels International Film Festival when it competed in 1996. I gave it my vote, because I love the film.
It’s always a good writing day, if I can write for 10 minutes. Always 10.
-Courtney Hunt
And I get to feel good about myself if I do the 10.
On a bad writing day, I’ll just put like 10 minutes, and I’ll write down the time, and then 10 minutes from then I’ll check it off when I’ve done that. […]
And then I’ll just do another 10, if I feel up to it.
On a good day, that can go on for three hours.
