Step 2: Draft the script report
Topic · 1 minute
The term Script Report comes from the industry practice of coverage. The report includes a brief synopsis as well as the strengths and weaknesses of the script from a commercial perspective.
We’re using the term here loosely, as you’re not strictly writing coverage.
Instead, today you’re going to look at the notes and write what you learned from the scrippets and the reading of Wait List.
For this, you keep any headings you created yesterday, but the bullet points will now be your points of learning. For instance:
FORMATTING
- Contemporary spec scripts have description paragraphs that are shorter and leaner than production drafts, or older screenplays.
- Scene transitions are left out, unless they are critical for understanding the story.
CHARACTER
- When characters speak an unrealistic language, this may distract and get the reader out of the story.
- Character introductions in the Action/Description element usually include the character’s age, physique, social attributes, and main behavioural traits.
If you wish, you can upload your script report below to keep it with your course work.
