Immersion Film

Immersion Film is a 28-day, film-only screenwriting bootcamp built around Forgery, Discovery and Mastery.

Each day
30 minutes
Core practice, plus reading on some days

Most screenwriting training teaches you to edit. This trains you to write.

Analysis is useful, but it skips the part that matters most: learning what a great script feels like on the page, and building the muscle memory to write that way yourself. That is what we train here — a self-paced bootcamp, about thirty minutes of core practice a day with longer reading on some days, and twelve months of access so you can go at your own pace.

Discovery

You read a few pages

From a produced screenplay, close and current. You work out what makes it hold, scene by scene, and note the decisions as you go.

Forgery

You copy a page by hand

Into your own script software, every space and capital. The rhythm, the format and the style get into your hands rather than your notes.

After you enrol

  1. Day 1 opens straight away. Nothing is drip-fed.

  2. You work about thirty minutes a day, at whatever hour suits you, with a longer reading block on some days.

  3. At the midpoint you send a synopsis and a script report. Karel reads both and writes back.

  4. Finish the course and the report, and the certificate unlocks.

Your instructor

Karel Segers

Karel Segers wrote his first produced screenplay at 17. Today he is a story consultant, writer and producer, with experience in film rights acquisition, development and production. A qualified teacher, his lectures have inspired students across Australia, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, and his clients include award-winning filmmakers and three Oscar nominees. He is the founder of The Story Department and Logline.it, and a co-writer on Danger Close (Long Tan).

Before you start

You need a screenwriting app you are comfortable in, and about thirty minutes a day you can actually protect. The work is small and daily — that is the whole method.
