Day 3 – Discovery. Not entertainment.
Day · 1 minute
It’s astounding how many people believe that watching lots of movies and taking a few courses will get them to become skilled screenwriters.
When I ask students how often they re-watch a movie for study, the answer rarely is ‘as often as it takes’.
Many would rather enjoy the next Marvel release than analyse a classic or a low-budget breakout drama.
This is not getting you anywhere.
Just watching movies for entertainment is not adding to your skills.
Discovery requires an active mindset.
Watching the same on your laptop, starting and stopping the video, while taking notes, is a different thing. You’ll find out in the second part of this course!
If you recognise yourself above in the description above, don’t panic. It’s never too late, as there’s a whole journey of Immersion to go through after this course, with genre-specific options tailored to your taste.
If you are serious about this thing, you’ll have to sharpen your methods. Acquire the habit during these three weeks, and set your own schedule thereafter.
Always continue learning, or you will fall behind those who do.
Enough for the rant about Discovery. Let’s commit some Forgery.
Today, your choice is between a drama or an action film.
Copying drama is useful for everyone, but if you’re planning to write in the action genre, here is your first opportunity to hone your genre skills.
