Immersion Script

Day 6 – Breaking the habit · Step 1 of 2

Review your notes

Topic · 1 minute

If you have worked methodically, your Script Journal may contain entries about the scrippets as well as Wait List.

Towards the end of the course, you will compile the notes that resonate with you in what we’ll call your Manifesto. It will be a statement of intent about your own stylistic voice.

Today’s first exercise makes a start at understanding what you have learned, and what you like.

Look at your notes, and organise them by the general aspects of screenwriting:

  • Story
  • Character
  • Theme
  • Structure
  • Format
  • etc.

Some of these may have only a few of even no entries at all. That’s fine. There is still a long journey ahead!

The idea is that you will make statements in terms of what you have learned. Perhaps, you found that some description takes long paragraphs in some scripts, and only a few lines in others.

When you make this observation, feel free to add what your experience was. Did you find it easier to read the long paragraphs, or not?

By collecting and organising your findings today, you’re making a start at your own ‘style guide’.

At this point, the notes are still your own. You don’t need to polish them. That we’ll do later.
